3. Photocopy of Passport (personal information page)

4. Photocopy of the Chinese visa page (or the current residence permit if you have one)

5. Photocopy of the Chinese entry stamp

6. Two 2-inch Photos

7. Printout of the JW202 Form

8. Printout of the Accommodation Registration Form (临时住宿登记表)

9. Digital Health Check Report saved as an independent PDF file on the cellphone (体检报告)

10. NUFE Certificate

11. Application Fee (400 CNY for 364-day permits and 800 for over 365-day permits)

* If you are extending your current residence permit, please prepare the files mentioned above, except for the JW202 Form and the Health Check Report. Students promoted to study further (like graduates from the Chinese Foundation Program to Bachelor's Degree Programs) need to submit the new JW202 Forms for the further study stage.

NUFE Certificate is issued by the office for international students at NUFE (Office 1416, Admin. Building, Xianlin Campus / 仙林校区行政楼1416办公室).

The Exit-Entry Administration of Nanjing Police Bureau (173 Baixia Rd. / 白下路173号南京市公安局出入境管理处) is the primary visa office to receive your residence permit applications. Photography service is also available there. Their work time is 8:30-17:00, Monday to Friday.

ACCOMMODATION REGISTRATION FORM

International students must complete the Temporary Accommodation Registration within 24 hours of arrival in China. Under relevant Chinese laws, international students must complete this registration within 24 hours of changing their living places. You can finish this registration quite quickly via WeChat on the official account of the Nanjing Police Department. See Registration Guide:  临时住宿登记教程 Accommodation Reg. Tutorial.pdf. If you live in a hotel, hotel receptionists will complete this registration for you when you check-in. Otherwise, you must complete it on your own.

HEALTH CHECK

New international students who will study over one semester at NUFE must take a health check at Jiangsu International Travel Healthcare Center (39 Chuangzhi Rd, Jianye District, Nanjing 创智路39号江苏国际旅行卫生保健中心). Those who have done health checks in their home countries should bring the related reports to Jiangsu International Travel Healthcare Center for verification. Any students whose original health check reports do not meet the requirements must re-take the health check. Students are personally liable for health check expenses. Any students whose health check results do not meet the minimum required health standard must leave China within 30 days of arrival and bear all the costs involved. The Health Check Report is a prerequisite for the Residence Permit Application, so please complete it as soon as possible.  

RESIDENCE PERMIT APPLICATION STEP-BY-STEP

The Residence Permit is a long-time stay visa for most international students in China, which has no border entry & exit limits. Most international students with X1 visas must convert them into Residence Permits in time because, by relevant visa law, the X1 visa is only valid for 30 days after the visa bearer enters China. Overstaying your visa will lead to severe punishments by the immigration authority. For instance, your entry seal was stamped on Sept.2, 2023, so the last day of your X1 Visa is Oct.2, 2023.

Within 30 days of entering China, new international students must pass the health check, pay tuition and accommodation fees, and then take documents issued by the College of International Education to the Immigration Department of Nanjing Police Department to apply for Residence Permits. 

Enrolled students must come to the College of International Education at least 30 days before the Residence Permit expires and take the required documents to the Immigration Department of Nanjing Police Department to extend the current residence permit. 

Any student whose residence permit (or visa) expires in China will be fined or punished according to the Chinese visa law by the immigration authority. Please carefully read the Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China for the legal liabilities.

*Residence Permit Application Form

This form is available in visa offices. Applicants are suggested to download the blank form, double-sided print, and fill it in with black ink before coming to the visa offices  0-Residence Permit Application Form.pdf. If you have problems filling out the form, please check the sample form and read the tips  0-Residence Permit Application Form Sample.pdf  . Do not glue your 2-inch photo to the form until your photo has passed the visa office test.

* Special Notice for the 2-inch Photos

The 2-inch photos for the Residence Permit Application should be colored, white-backgrounded, bare-headed, and taken within 1 month. Please remember to remove all your facial decorations and wear dark-colored clothes when taking photos. Photos with glossy surfaces are recommended, as the matte ones often fail in the test. Don't use the photos for your passport or visa applications, as they have been taken under different standards.

You may turn to the following visa office branches as well. Hexi Branch is not recommended, as they can review approximately 40 applications per work day.
