Must-know Assessment Roadmap for Chinese Preparatory Program Students (Class of 2025)

Date:2024-10-17Author:click:

In June 2025, most of the enrolled Chinese Preparatory Program (1+4 Program / Chinese Foundation Program) students are scheduled to join in the incoming comprehensive assessment, in which qualified students will be selected for Bachelor's Degree Programs, Master's Degree Programs, or the 2nd year preparatory language program, with respective scholarship options. Please read the following assessment introduction carefully as it determines the potential admission offers and scholarship options.

COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT

The comprehensive assessment reviews graduating students' overall performance by seven aspects, including Chinese course results, HSK Level, attendance rate, daily conduct, dorm discipline, and interview results.  NUFE will select qualified graduates for Bachelor's Degree Programs / Master's Degree Programs / the 2nd year language training and confirm tuition and scholarship conditions. The conditional admission pathways and scholarship options are listed below:

(1) The total score of each assessment indicator is 100, with the HSK Level as an exception: the HSK-4 Test score not less than 180 will be deemed 100; the HSK-5 Test score not less than 180 is 150. Please ensure you can get your HSK Test Report before the interview. HSK-4 is the minimum language requirement for most bachelor's degree programs, and HSK-5 for master's degree programs. As soon as you receive your report, please submit it to the tutor of your class.

Please note that the Bachelor's Degree Program - Business Administration instructed in English (BBA) is also an option for Chinese Preparatory Program graduates. The program is taught in English, so the HSK level is not mandatory. But we suggest the graduates who would like to join in the scholarship competition pass HSK tests like others, as the HSK scores play an important part in scholarship assessment.

(2) Class tutors and course teachers will report attendance rate and daily conduct directly. Attending the NUFE organized event will earn you an additional 5-10 points.

(3) The interview determines your pathway to degree programs, 2nd-year language study, or dropping out. Any student who fails the interview must finish his/her study at NUFE. The interview lasts approximately 5-10 minutes per student, covering self-introduction, general questions, and Chinese competency verification. After the interview, we will release admission options and confirm with every participant. For the graduates who will not continue their study at NUFE, the interview is not required.

(4) By relevant regulations of educational authority, if you would like to enter a Bachelor's Degree Program, please ensure that you can provide your high school diploma or higher degree before the interview (a Bachelor's Degree is the prerequisite for a Master's Degree Program). Otherwise, you are not allowed to start degree program study.

(5) Having passed the HSK Test is one of the mandatory requirements for degree program study. Thus, we encourage students with insufficient Chinese competency to apply for the 2nd year of the language program with a tuition fee discount privilege (11000CNY tuition fee), lower than the usual standard (13000CNY).

For details on NUFE's scholarship system, please check the webpage: http://english.nufe.edu.cn/info/1105/1478.htm.

(6) Please be aware that scholarship students must pay the full tuition fee in September for the upcoming academic year before becoming eligible to receive the corresponding scholarship payments for that year. It's important to note that there will be a noticeable difference between the freshman scholarship amount (17000CNY) and the tuition fee for first-year master's degree students (23000CNY).

GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION

NUFE receives several government scholarship seats annually, including the Jiangsu Government Scholarship and the Nanjing Government Scholarship. Most of these seats are one-time cash bonuses, ranging from 5000 to 18000 CNY, and are open to international students at NUFE.

By NUFE's tradition and policy, any government scholarship seats for first-year students in Bachelor’s Degree Programs will be allocated by their total score rankings during the preparatory study. We will sum their Comprehensive Chinese Course scores, interview scores, daily conduct, HSK score, extra points and dorm relevant performances into a total score. Applicants are to be ranked by total scores, and correspondingly, government scholarship seats will be awarded to those at the top of the ranking list.

By the instructions of government authorities, the cash bonus can only be distributed when the scholarship winner is enrolled at NUFE. Suppose a government scholarship winner chooses to quit NUFE before the scholarship is distributed; in that case, his/her scholarship seat will be canceled. Please take these facts into consideration.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q1: What is the deadline for the whole selection process?

The complete assessment will be finished before July. You should submit your HSK Test Report before the interview, which is to be held in Mid-June (the exact date to be determined later), and we will release the final results in one or two weeks. Lastly, please keep your high school diploma or Bachelor's Degree on hand for degree program admission verification.

Q2: I passed HSK-4, but the interview result refuses me from getting into degree study. Why?

The interview determines the students' possible study options at NUFE. Some students may be directed into 2nd-year of language study if necessary. If you fail the interview, we are sorry to say that you have to leave us when this semester ends. Please prepare yourself for this crucial challenge.

Q3: Can I get the any scholarship during my degree study later?

Yes. Please check the webpage http://english.nufe.edu.cn/info/1105/1478.htm.

Q4: I can't pass the HSK-4 Test, but I want to apply for a degree program. What should I do?

Business Administration instructed in English (BBA) will be a great choice as it doesn't require the HSK-4 Level.

Q5: Is HSK-4 enough for me to study for a Bachelor's Degree Program?

Our experience says: NO!!! For most students, the HSK-4 Level of Chinese competency can help them in most daily situations, but more is needed for professional study. Generally, the better your Chinese is, the more probably you will handle your degree study. We recommend the HSK-5 Level to every student who is serious about their future study, as the HSK-5 Level is the minimum language requirement for degree program graduation.

Q6: I passed the HSK-4 Test, but my Chinese is not good. What should I do?

As the saying goes, “haste makes waste” if you are not 100% confident in your Chinese competency, turning to the 2nd-year language study is an ideal choice. Meanwhile you will enjoy the Tuition Fee Discount Privilege (Pay 11000CNY) for the 2nd-year language study.

Q7: What degree programs are friendly to international students?

Please check our web page (https://english.nufe.edu.cn/info/1017/1931.htm), and you will find the language requirement, academic challenge, international student population, and program friendliness of most Bachelor's Degree Programs. The availability of Bachelor's Degree programs is subject to change without notice.

Q8: Are there any degree programs instructed in English?

Yes. Business Administration instructed in English (BBA) is a new option for the Chinese Preparatory Program graduates
