Next semester most of the enrolled 1+4 Program students will join in the incoming comprehensive assessment, in which qualified students are to be selected into Bachelor's Degree Programs or 2nd year language program, with respective tuition waivers or scholarship potentials. Please read the following assessment introduction carefully as it determines your potential admission offers and scholarship options.

Due to the online instruction under COVID-19 containment measures, the comprehensive assessment only checks students’ Comprehensive Chinese Course scores, HSK level, attendance rate, classroom conduct, student event performance, and interview score. The implementation of dorm management will not be included. The conditional admissions and tuition fee waiver options are listed below.

(1) The score of each assessment item is 100, with the HSK level as an exception: HSK-4 score not less than 180 will be deemed 100; HSK-5 score not less than 180 is 150. Please ensure you can get your HSK Test Report before the interview. As soon as you receive your report, please submit it to the tutor of your class.

(2) The interview determines your pathway to degree programs, 2nd-year language study, or dropping out. Any student who fails the interview must finish his/her study at NUFE.

Every interview participant must have a working camera and microphone, as interviewers will need to see and hear him/her throughout the interview. Please double-check your interview space, internet connection stability, and computer reliability, as there is no backup interview if any problem occurs. Most importantly, a smartphone is not recommended for the interview, and it will affect the interview score adversely. The interview will be via 腾讯会议 (VooV Meeting) and last approximately 5-10 minutes per student, covering self-introduction, general questions, and Chinese competency verification. Interviewers will call over participants’ names one by one in Wechat class groups. Another offline interview will be held in the College of International Education meeting rooms for the students on campus. After the interviews, we will release admission options and confirm with every participant.

(3) By relevant regulations of educational authority, if you would like to enter Bachelor's Degree Program, please ensure that you can provide your high school diploma or higher graduation certificate before the interview. Otherwise, you are not allowed to start degree program study.

(4) Having passed the HSK test is one of the mandatory requirements for degree study. Thus we encourage students with insufficient Chinese competency to apply for the 2nd year of study in the language program with a tuition fee discount privilege (11000CNY tuition fee), which is lower than the usual standard (13000CNY).

(5) Attendance rate and daily conduct will be reported directly by your class tutors and course teachers.

SPECIAL ATTENTION: the students of Class 2023 are the last class eligible for the current tuition fee waiver system. Since the autumn semester of 2023, NUFE will have a new university scholarship system (see: http://english.nufe.edu.cn/info/1105/1478.htm), which offers more types of scholarships, increases academic requirements, and abolishes tuition fee waivers. The new scholarship system will be effective for the students who are having preparatory study in September 2023, so the students having the 2nd-year language study will also be included.

TIMELINE & DEADLINE

The comprehensive assessment will be finished no later than June 30, 2023.

The interview will be held in late June, so please ensure you can obtain your HSK Test Report (HSK-4 for Bachelor's Degree Programs and HSK-5 for Master's Degree Programs) and highest diploma in early June (high school diploma for Bachelor's Degree Programs and Bachelor's Degree for Master's Degree Programs); otherwise, you can't join the interview.

TUITION FEE & DORM RENT STANDARDS

Tuition Fee of Master's Degree Programs: 23000 CNY /  Academic Year

Tuition Fee of Bachelor’s Degree Programs: 17000 CNY / Academic Year

Tuition Fee of Preparatory Program: 13000 CNY / Academic Year

Dorm rent: 4000 CNY / Academic Year

The dorm rent doesn't cover the accommodation for winter & summer vacations.

TUITION FEE WAIVER SYSTEM

The current tuition waiver system works throughout your standard degree study at NUFE, which checks your course scores, attendance rate, and conduct in degree programs. As a degree program student, if you can achieve more than 65 in every course in the previous academic year, with attendance over 80% and good conduct, you can apply for a 100% tuition fee waiver for next year; if you can achieve more than 65 in at least eight courses in the previous academic year, with the attendance over 80% and good conduct, you can apply for 50% tuition fee waiver for next year.

Notably, the preparatory students of Class 2023 are the last class eligible for the current tuition fee waiver system. In September 2023, the new scholarship system will replace the tuition fee waiver system for the students of Class 2024.

GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION

Generally, NUFE receives several government scholarship seats annually, including the Jiangsu Government Scholarship and the Nanjing Government Scholarship. Most of these seats are one-time cash bonuses, ranging from 5000 to 18000 CNY, and are open to international students at NUFE.

By NUFE's tradition and policy, any government scholarship seats available to first-year students in Bachelor’s Degree Programs will be allocated to awardees by their total score rankings during the preparatory study. Usually, we will sum their Comprehensive Chinese Course scores, interview scores, class conduct, attendance rate, HSK score, and other relevant performances into a total score. Applicants are to be ranked by full scores, and correspondingly government scholarship seats will be awarded to those at the top of the ranking list.

By the instructions of government authorities, the cash bonus can only be distributed when the scholarship winner is allowed to enter China and return to the NUFE campus. Suppose a government scholarship winner chooses to quit NUFE before returning to the campus; in that case, his/her scholarship seat will be automatically transferred to the student after him/her on the ranking list. Furthermore, some scholarship seats are only valid for international students in China, so the winners outside China may not receive scholarship funds. Please take these facts into your consideration.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q1: When is the deadline for the whole selection process?

Generally, the complete assessment will be finished before July. You should submit your HSK Test Report before the interview, which is to be held in late June (the exact date to be determined later), and we will release the final results in one or two weeks. Lastly, please keep your high school diploma or Bachelor's Degree Certificate on hand for degree program verification.

Q2: I passed HSK-4, but the interview result refuses me from getting into degree study. How is that?

The interview determines the students' possible study options at NUFE. Some students may be directed into 2nd-year of language study if necessary. If you fail the interview, we are sorry to say that you have to leave us when this semester ends, no matter how high you achieve on the HSK test. Please prepare yourself for this crucial challenge.

Q3: Can I get the tuition waiver during my degree study?

Yes. Please check the Tuition Waiver System section.

Q4: I can't pass the HSK-4 test, but I want to apply for a degree program. What can I do?

You must pass the HSK-4 test before applying for the degree program.

Q5: Is HSK-4 enough for me to study for a Bachelor's Degree Program?

Our experience says: no! For most students, the HSK-4 level of Chinese competency can help them in most daily situations, but more is needed for professional study. Generally, the better your Chinese is, the more probably you will handle your degree study. We recommend HSK-5 level to every student who is serious about their future study.

Q6: I passed the HSK-4 test, but my Chinese is not good. What can I do?

As the saying goes, “haste makes waste” if you are not 100% confident in your Chinese competency, turning to the 2nd-year language study is an ideal choice. Please note that the preparatory students of Class 2023 are the last class eligible for the current tuition fee waiver system. If you finish the 2nd-year language study in June 2023, you will be subject to the new scholarship system rather than the current tuition waiver system.

Q7: What degree programs are friendly to international students?

Please check our web page (http://english.nufe.edu.cn/info/1017/1701.htm), and you will find the language requirement, academic challenge, international student population, and program friendliness of most Bachelor's Degree programs of NUFE. The availability of Bachelor's Degree programs is subject to change without notice.

Q8: Are there any degree programs instructed in English?

No. All degree programs at NUFE are instructed in Chinese, so HSK levels are indispensable in admissions.
